The minute this Happy Cover Plate Die arrived at my house I wanted to create a card with it. I love the word happy. It’s just such a happy word! haha Somehow though it took me a long time to actually make a card with it so here goes! Here is an image of it:

And here is my card. A card that took way too long because of my indecision and mistakes on how to use it! I think I’m happy with the final outcome but still not sure.

My plan was to use my acrylic paint markers to make it because I’m so obsessed with them right now. When is this going to wear off so I can get back to my Copics (not to mention my once beloved expensive collection of colored pencils!)??? I die-cut the plate die and did what I always do with background dies. I die-cut two so I can glue one down to the front of the card in one piece so I can more easily assemble it over it. I then painted all the background pieces with the markers. I used about 6 colors of blues and aquas. I started with one color and then layered other colors in lines over each other. I use my finger to blend the colors and then put some solid lines over the top without blending so it looks like this. This would look good as the background for a beach scene.

I glued down all the background pieces and this is when things went amok. I started by painting the H with pink acrylic markers using the same technique but when I glued it down I decided it looked horrible. I then decided to use solid cardstock colors and that improved things. But now I think the background looks over done. I’m never happy! I die-cut another frame as my got dirty and I decided it would look best with the frame standing up more so I glued that down to finish it. I stamped the birthday greeting using the Basic Brushstroke Greetings stamp set and die cut it out with the matching die. I used Peony PSInk. I added some clear bubbles around the letters. And there you have it!
Do you like my weird background? I always admire Laura Bassen’s cards because she uses plain cardstock to create masterpieces. But I just can’t do it. It feels too plain to me. Would love to hear anyone else’s opinions on such things! Thanks for visiting. Suzy
